How do I put it subtly? It is quite disgraceful. I remember their breakup back in 2000 was it? And eight years later, here they are, trying to make the comeback. Unless a miracle happens (you know miracles? Flying hippos, raining money and men) they are most likely unable to make it as big as they were. They walked away from their group success to pursue solo success and obviously found none. Mediocre singles selling a fraction of what they use to sell. Takako and Hiro had a few minor successes, but nothing compared to what they achieved as a group.
The song is far from awful, but not great. Just quite good. The chorus is quite catchy, the PV is awfully cheap-looking. I remember adoring their songs and being able to just sing-a-long without any lyrics to refer to! I didn’t know ANY Japanese other than hello and thank you and goodbye, but I could sing-a-long. Their compilation album was playing in my car for a whole year! So this song is not as good if we compare it with their past singles.
BUT, I like it that they matured. Some groups try to make a comeback by emulating their past image and style. And you cannot turn back time. You cannot just go back to being a teenager, singing teen pop songs. I commend them for coming back on a different tone, a different feel to their music and image.
You’d think things would change for them, seeing as to 8 years have passed and Takako had more success as a solo artist than Eriko who was and is the lead singer in the group along with Hiro. You’d think that Takako and Hitoe would have a few more lines. But no, they stuck to the same strategy. That is probably because Takako and Hitoe can’t sing for shit. Oh well, who am I to speak?
If I remembered correctly, this isn’t their first attempt at a comeback. Or is it? I remember a few post-breakup singles. Oh well, I guess they can label this whatever they want and make a big buzz of it. The first sign of their comeback was during the 24Hr event earlier this year. They performed some old songs, if I remembered correctly. I mean, whatever. If they released a GREAT comeback single, I would be more positive about this. I am a bit disappointed, you see.
