[Movie] Ooku

2 Farted
2010

If gender roles were reversed and women ruled the world, what would become of the concubines?

While this movie focuses on more than the 'manly' squabbles of the shogunate concubines, I would very much rather focus on the small picture. It is rather intriguing. We will slowly back out to focus on the big picture, but right now, just right now, we will talk about pretty boy squabbles for position and power.

Many times have we watched a movie, a drama serial about the concubines of Imperial China. The Emperor would be the cock in charge (forgive the uncouth language, for the lack of a better word...) and the women will fight each other in an endless (and often deadly) competition for the man's attention.

Women, their nature is conniving and possessive. It is only natural that they would fight each other for a man's attention. As reality dictates, a woman would fight another woman for a lesser man, much more can be said if it were the Emperor of China.

Now, imagine if the concubine grew penises. Imagine the concubines' places taken up by a bunch of pretty boys. There you go. What a wonderful idea, no?

Say, an epidemic stormed the land, infecting the men - and only the men. What is left is a surplus of women and suddenly, the roles reversed. The shogun is a woman and hundreds of men are lining up, pining to be in the good graces of the shogun.

Such is the world in which our central character, Mizuno lives. Forced to abandon his first name when he entered the inner chambers a.k.a. Ooku when prospects were growing thin for a descendent of a samurai, Mizuno found himself in a bizarre world. Male servants of the shogun were ranked by hierarchy of those who were the favourites of the shogun slowly down to the ones whom are not worthy to be seen by her.

The good thing about a reverse harem of pretty boys is that they can bed a higher ranking pretty boy to leap up. Handy, no? Not necessarily more peaceful than a harem of psychotic women, this offers a different look into an alternate world where for once, women had to pay for sex and they had to do the chasing. Interesting, no?
A wonderfully entertaining watch! Makes me want to get my hands on the manga.

[Drama] Love Shuffle

0 Farted
Winter 2009

Episodes: 10

Starring: Tamaki Hiroshi, Karina, Matsuda Shota, DAIGO, Yoshitaka Yuriko, Kanjiya Shihori, Tanihara Shosuke...

This drama is about 8 people who participate in a 'love shuffle' where partners are shuffled on a weekly basis. Each week, they will have a different partner to go on dates with and to get to know. Each person partake in this bizarre arrangement for their own reasons which will slowly be unfolded as the drama progresses. It all started when four residents of a luxury apartment building who live on the same floor were trapped, by chance, in the same elevator at the same time during thunderstorm which caused a power failure. The four - Usami Kei, Aizawa Airu, Sera Oujiro and Kikuta Masato began talking about various things in their lives and found that they are all dissatisfied with the path their lives are taking.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
Usami Kei is a young man whose fiancée is the daughter of his boss. Due to this relationship he was quickly promoted to a high rank. When he thought their relationship was going well and that a wedding will soon follow, the fiancee, Kagawa Mei decided that she couldn't follow through the engagement. Not only Kei did not receive an explanation for Mei's actions, but Mei, who appears to still have feelings for Kei, might not know the reasons herself.

Aizawa Airu, a linguistic interpreter kind of person, is attractive and smart. However, she finds that her relationships never go well as she watches her current relationship with rich man Oishi Yukichi fall apart helplessly. Though Yukichi loves Airu, he just could not fill the void in her heart and make her happy. Despite being rich and good-looking, Yukcihi is timid and submissive, a clear contrast with Airu, an outspoken, rough young woman.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
Sera Oujiro is a shady professional photographer who mainly takes pictures of models, gravure models, fashion models. Models. Smooth-talking and confident and good-looking, Oujiro seems to be able to have his way with women. But the woman he is sleeping with is an older, curvy, married woman named Kamijo Reiko. Reiko is a scorned wife whose husband does not see her as a woman. She feels unwanted and seeks to become promiscuous with various man.

Kikuta Masato is a mature, reliable psychiatrist who seems to be able to think rationally about the happenings around him while retaining an air of mystery about him. One of his patients is a young art major university student, Hayakawa Kairi. Her father is a strict man who forbids her to do anything besides art. She feels trapped by his restrictions and rules and subsequently becomes suicidal. Masato proposed a "Love Shuffle" amongst his neighbours, their partners and Kairi which might or might not be driven by his concern for Kairi as a patient...

The eight individuals agreed to the arrangement though some participants needed some persuasion. Will new couples be formed? Or will old couples reunite? See... I don't know. It is extremely confusing.

*****

Expected pairings, slowly gets rather boring, but overall good. I'd spend more time with this entry but I have to uh... prepare for a presentation for my report and some other stuff.

So here's a brief on. Couplings, you can tell from the second episode or third. Tamaki Hiroshi annoyed me, favourite character Matsuda Shota's up until the point where he got boring and broke down because he thought Kairi was dead.

Halfway through, they tried to play up the mystery, but when the explanation for the mystery was done near the end, they were just boring. It is like they build up the anticipation, but could not deliver the big boom towards the end. It is like... uh... they Y2K, if anyone remembers that shit. So, towards the end of 1999, everyone was all "OMFG, like what is going to happen?" and then 2000 came and there really wasn't that big of a fuss. Yeah, like that.

Also, there were a lot of factors they used to kick up the drama and 'mystery' if that's what you want to call it. I call it confusion. There were too many characters and limited time for character development. What you had was just a simple explanation of the characters' backgrounds when two of the characters were having a heart-to-heart conversation. Was not satisfactory. The 8 main characters were this drama's best feature, yet it caused the drama's worst. Also, the various reference to Japanese popular culture and other random references which were incorporated into their conversations can cause much confusion to those who don't understand. Considering the fact that I watched this raw... I am lucky to understand as much as I do.

I did, however, enjoyed. In fact, I haven't finished watching "Voice" and "Triangle", so it will be a little bit hard to decide which was the champ for the season for me.

The second part... well, I can't say... =X

Blending humour with their tales of perseverance and passion for music, its such a fun drama to watch, I almost forgot how much I enjoyed the drama...

Chiaki and Nodame are just the cutest thing! I like how Chiaki likes her and is so inspired by her yet wouldn't admit it but still took care of her... -that is, when he is not beating her up and throwing her around like a dummy-... xD

Especialy Chiaki, I mean, when Tamaki Hiroshi smiles, he has that... dimple and the wrinkles-at-the-end-of-the-eyes thing. That's a killer.

Well at least for me. And Wentz Eiji is just hilarious, and they have Becky! Becky with too much make up and tacky clothes, but me thinks Aiba likes Becky, so we like Becky too. (Oh, don't tell me he doesn't, watching lots of TSD has convinced me so.)

Ueno Juri, I know they say that she's a bitch off camera, but do I care? No, Nodame is just hilarious, so yeah, we kinda like her. I mean, SawaEri's a bitch, does anyone care?

This just motivated me to watch Tamaki Hiroshi's new drama "Shikaotoko Aonishiyori" or something like that... Whatever. I had the impression that he is a very serious man, but gosh, only in this drama we see the funny side of him. Well, when I first saw him in "Heavenly Forest" he was cute and stuff, but he looked so young, now he has this... mature aura. Nevermind.

Its a good drama special.

[Movie] Tada, Kimi wo Aishiteru

[Moved from my old blog.]

Starring: Aoi Miyazaki, Hiroshi Tamaki, Kuroki Meisa...

I was confused when I first saw that the two main characters have the same name as the two main characters from Renai Shashin starring Matsuda Ryuhei and Hirosue Ryoko. Yes, the guy is named Makoto and the girl Shizuru.

In fact, until today, I have yet to find out what are the connections between the two movies other than photography.

Anyways, the movie is so sad I don't think I can watch it again. T_T

The beginning was not sad, but near the end, the storyline became so bittersweet... And then there's Aoi Miyazaki. I read that Aoi was filming this movie thats why she gave up Nana (along with other reasons).

So to make this movie, the price is NANA2. So, it is expensive. Means, we have to watch.

Sorry, I couldn't find a better picture. But the guy's face is really funny. Not as funny as that Ryuhei Matsuda's but still funny.

Oh... sad. I shall go dwell in my sadness again cos I just watched a few scenes from the movie.

[Drama] Nodame Cantabile

[Moved from my old blog.]

Starring: Juri Ueno, Hiroshi Tamaki...

Storyline: Chiaki Shinichi is a music student in a University... and then err... stuff happens to him? Malas aku nak explain banyak banyak, if you are interested you would Google it up. xD

I don't care about Nodame, but... Chiaki is love.I think when he doesn't smile, he looks really cold, yet when he does, it is so... kiut. xD

That girl who played Sachiko in "NANA" is in here too, her character is a far more likable character compared to Sachiko.

Besides Chiaki, there's Masumi! You cannot not like Masumi!!! He is hilariously, deeply in love with Chiaki. He loves him. xD When Chiaki needs him, he would literally fly to his side. Hilarious!

But of course, it is one-sided, as Chiaki is very hetero.

The fact that the drama is soooo predictable is a killer though. Prince-type guy, weird-lovable girl, together in the end. If I like the girl, then its better. But Juri Ueno bugs me. T_T And I like Hiroshi Tamaki. T_T

The girl looks a whole damn lot like Ayaya. Ayaya is scary. T_T Ayaya jumps around in umbrella shaped dresses and dances like... T_T Barney.

Oah I am traumatized. How could Chiaki do that? Oh I am ranting away...

Here's the thing about Japanese dramas, they are short, they progress really fast, and they are straight to the point. There is no beating round the bush.

I hate Hongkie or Taiwanese dramas that just go on and on and on. It wears off, the excitement, no matter how good the storyline.

Like "Bleach", I ain't watching it no more. Cos it is too mafan. 100++ episodes? Seriously. But I still collect it though, just to know the ending, or watch it when I have nothing better to do.
Anyways, I will finish "Nodame Cantabile" in a few hours. And then when I wake up, I will start with "Liar Game" or that Korean drama with HeeChul in it. xD If I watch it, it would be the first REAL Korean drama I watch. I never watch Korean dramas, not even the famous ones such as Winter Sonata or Autumn in My Heart or Lovers in Paris. I never watch more than a few episodes. And then I got bored, because it seems so repetitive.

Man falls in love with perfect/not-so-perfect-but-special woman/girl. Man pursues. Other man comes along and tries to pursue girl. Girl torn apart. Evil woman likes Man. Girl cries a lot. Man says something romantic. Other man does something more romantic. Girl loves Man. Other man heartbroken. Girl and Man almost got together. Evil woman or Other man ruins the chance. Then there is the ending.

The endings are:
1. Man and woman dies.
2. Other man dies.
3. Evil woman hooks up with Other Man, Man hooks up with Girl.
4. Someone goes blind.
5. They all die.
6. One of them dies.

Korean dramas revolve around the relationships, the crying and all that crap.
